As they say at VMworld, success begins with you, and we couldn’t agree more! The team from Galileo Performance Explorer spent the week at Mandalay Bay connecting with our partners and customers, as well as getting to know some new faces. VMware is delivering some of the industry’s most comprehensive cloud solutions, furthering data center modernization and establishing consistent infrastructure and operations from the data center to the cloud. As a leading provider of data visualization for capacity planning and performance monitoring, Galileo provides our clients with multi-vendor, predictive insights into their VMware environments, as well as more comprehensive insights around related assets, including IBM storage, servers and systems.
VMworld brought us five days of innovation to accelerate the journey to a software-defined business—from mobile devices to the data center and the cloud. No matter what path you’re on, VMworld 2018 made it easy to discover new technology, learn the trends and meet the experts shaping the future of digital business and taking IT to the next level.
Kicking off the week
Arriving early in the week, our team (including Principal, Tim Conley) immediately embraced the vCommunity as a whole. Monday was destined to be a success after getting off to such a phenomenal start in the keynote and opening session. “Technology Superpowers” was one of the most jam-packed opening sessions in VMworld history! VMware CEO, Pat Gelsinger, was incredibly energetic speaking to the attendees about the future of VMware… he even got a VMware “tattoo” to prove his dedication.
Pat kicked off the week with a trip down VMware memory lane to commemorate the 20th anniversary, breaking down the different phases and changes VMware has undergone over the past two decades and highlighting the four current superpowers of the IT world: Cloud, Mobile, AI and Edge. He also proudly ushered VMware into the multi-cloud era.
“With every business currently on a multi-cloud journey, the fusion of both the hybrid cloud and public cloud will be essential for most enterprises moving forward. Where VMware comes into play is in its uncanny ability to bridge across these various silos of innovation to unite them as one, because together these superpowers make each other stronger.”
Internet of Things (IoT) and Network Edge innovations figured prominently in the announcements at VMworld 2018 conference. The new announcements were framed by the company in the context of its broad effort to extend the VMware hybrid and multi-cloud environments to the edge.
“As the world of edge computing and IoT becomes more distributed, billions of connected devices require increasing levels of compute at the edge, which needs to be secured, managed and automated,” the company said. “VMware will help customers by providing local intelligence and compute from the datacenter to the cloud to edge building on VMware’s network edge investments.”
Serious fun to be had
As we all know the entertainment and networking at other major IT conferences is just as important as the education. Anywhere we went in Mandalay Bay (and the rest of Las Vegas for that matter), we could easily find friends and colleagues chatting about the day’s sessions and enjoying some great entertainment! IBM had Tony Hawk. Cohesity had Snoop Dogg. Rubrik had The Roots and Run-DMC. We even bumped into The King himself a few times.
Monday Magic at the VIP Welcome Reception
We kicked off the week with fantastic welcome reception at Libertine Social… complete with amazing food, Discovery cocktails and some pretty hard to believe shadow magic (thanks to Anders from The Infotainers). We’re all still scratching our heads and wondering how he does it!
Tuesday Demos & 106 Degree Heat
Tuesday morning we revived ourselves with in-suite demos and breakfast overlooking the mountains of Las Vegas. It was great getting to know some more vendors and partners in a quieter environment. Tuesday afternoon, we braved the dry Vegas heat for a bit of R&R at Mandalay Bay Beach. There was an amazing turnout with more Galileo demos in the poolside cabanas, chats about certification tests and some friendly competitions on the sand.
